What a great day out on Sunday! managed my first 60 miles of the season with the Eagle Club at Ugley. It was a lot harder than I'd expected which goes to show how easy it is to lose overall fitness through the winter. That said we made it. Myself, Mike Day (one of the Arch to Arc leaders) and Glenn Grant (leader from last year's event) enjoyed the day and 4 hours to me was a result!
I can highly recommend these events as pre Arch to Arc training sessions, not only will you have a great time, but you'll also get to feel for what it's like to ride in a group. If you're anything like me then a lot of training sessions will be lonely affairs munching miles with no specific target. With a group what you'll find is that you're drawn along with the crowd which ups your speed and spurs you on. On Sunday for example I could quite happily have given up at around 40 miles and hailed a cab but with others there with you it gives you an edge.
So give it a go, the next event is on Saturday this week (bit short notice... sorry). Again back in Ugley but with the Shaftesbury CC this time, here's the link. I'm doing the 100k but there are shorter or longer rides if you want. I filled in the entry form, scanned it and then e-mailed it to them and they replied back saying the'd be happy for me to pay on the day, so I suggest you do the same.
If you know of any events in your area then let me know and I'll publish them up on the site for others, and if you can't get to one of these types of events dont worry it's not compulsory for the Arch to Arc, however if you can go out with a club a couple of times between now and the event then great.
113 Days to go!! Can't wait!
